The challenge

Following external recommendations, the FBA wanted to change its operating model, make greater use of its assets and to improve the commerciality of its operation while remaining true to its scientific heritage and objectives.

The solution

NFP began by sourcing a change programme manager for the FBA. Once they were in place, we provided support for the development of a robust and comprehensive business case for the elements that would help the FBA achieve a successful change. This included a reconfiguration of the organisation, baselining and rewriting existing job descriptions, benchmarking salary, producing new job descriptions for the proposed structure, supporting the staff consultation process and advising senior managers. Alongside this exercise we worked with the FBA to recruit both a new Chief Executive and a Project Manager to run a newly awarded programme.  Once the change programme was underway, we recruited to new roles that had not been filled through the internal job matching process.

The outcome

The expertise and capacity provided by NFP enabled the FBA to maintain optimum progress on a number of different fronts and ensured that it delivered on the day-to-day operational requirements and at the same time move to a financially sustainable business model.
