Salary reviews and benchmarking for the Essex Wildlife Trust

Essex Wildlife Trust

The charity is one of the largest wildlife trusts in the UK and needed to ensure that it was competitive in attracting new staff to the organisation when compared to sectors it would need to recruit from. It also wanted to ensure that it rewarded existing staff fairly and kept them.

Using a bespoke Factor Plan, we reviewed the current structure of the organisation to establish its role hierarchy and salary ranges. We next identified the market anchor rate for each separate role using a variety of published salary data and market research. We included an overview and recommendations on the Total Reward arrangements in our report.

The trustee Remuneration Committee was able to set the pay strategy and to demonstrate to all staff the commitment to fair and competitive reward. The exercise has been repeated twice at three-yearly intervals to take account of market developments and trends in pay.
